Drink Up! Why Hydration is Your Period’s Best Friend

Benefits of drinking more water on your period

Updates for you all✨

Hi everyone, and welcome back to Flora! The holidays are just around the corner, but we’re not slowing down on delivering exciting content. If you missed it, we recently announced a giveaway for a sweet treat gift card on our Instagram! Don’t forget to head over and enter if you haven’t already.

We also have some big news to share: we’re officially launching Flora Dads! If you’re wondering what this is all about, let us explain. At Flora, our mission is to empower not only young girls and teens as they navigate puberty but also the parents supporting them. We know that millions of households in the U.S. don’t have a maternal figure, and while dads are often incredibly supportive, they might not always know how to connect or communicate effectively about these changes.

That’s where Flora Dads comes in. We’re building a platform designed to educate both dads and daughters, fostering better communication and making the puberty process a little less awkward for everyone involved. This is a big undertaking, but it’s something we’re passionate about—and we’re so grateful for the feedback and encouragement we’ve already received as we develop this initiative.

If you know a dad with a teenage daughter, or if you’d like to share this with your own dad, we’d love your support! Growing a community takes time and effort, but it’s an exciting challenge. We believe Flora Dads is a crucial step in helping us achieve our mission of education and inclusivity. Let’s tackle this journey together!

Hydration Hacks💧

Onto the tips and tricks we know you’ve been dying to learn👀

We know that everyone says drink half your body weight in ounces of water a day. This is key to just daily life, but is especially important when you’re on your period. But if you’re like me and you absolutely despise the taste of water (that’s right, water has a taste) here are some additional ways to get that h2o into your system!

Hydration Hack #1: Sip Smart with Electrolytes
Water is great, but sometimes your body needs a little extra love. Electrolyte drinks can be a game-changer, especially during your period when hydration needs increase. Look for options with natural ingredients and low sugar, like Liquid I.V. or Nuun. They help your body absorb water more efficiently and can ease period fatigue. Bonus: they taste amazing!

Hydration Hack #2: Eat Your Water
Not a fan of plain water? Snack your way to hydration! Water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, oranges, and strawberries not only hydrate but are full of vitamins. Add a few slices to your plate or toss them into a smoothie for a delicious, hydrating treat that doubles as self-care.

Hydration Hack #3: Upgrade Your Water Game
If you’re bored of plain taste try infusing it with fresh fruits, herbs, or even a splash of 100% juice. Some of our favorite combos are lemon and mint, cucumber and basil, or strawberries and lime. And if you want to go all out, grab a cute infuser bottle (like the Cirkul) to make staying hydrated feel extra special.

Hydration Hack #4: Herbal Tea for Cozy Hydration
When the weather cools down, switch to warm hydration with caffeine-free herbal teas. Chamomile, ginger, and peppermint are soothing choices that can also help with period cramps. Keep a stash of your favorite flavors handy for an easy way to hydrate and unwind.

Benefits!

If you’re still not convinced on adding some more water to your daily routine, check out the benefits below:

  • Reduces Bloating: Drinking water can help flush out excess sodium, which is a big culprit behind that puffy feeling.🙂

  • Eases Cramps: Staying hydrated can help your muscles (including your uterus!) relax and prevent cramping from becoming too intense.❤️

  • Boosts Energy: Fatigue is common during your period, but keeping up with your water intake can keep you energized.⚡

  • Supports Clear Skin: Hormonal changes can lead to breakouts, but hydration helps your skin stay healthy and glowing.🌟

I’m sure you have a water bottle collection hiding somewhere. Dust one off and let us know your favorite hacks at period symptom relief!

See you next week!

xx,
