Breaking Period Stigmas and Products to Add to Holiday Wish Lists

Welcome Back!!

We are officially one week in from our first newsletter post, and so thankful for all of you! Thank you to our early supporters for liking, sharing and subscribing! We are fresh off of a restful Thanksgiving and excited to continue to bring content to your inbox every Sunday.

If you aren’t already following our Instagram we also are posting updates here throughout the week and are always open to feedback!

What is our mission?

We started Grow with Flora to support girls going through puberty, about to hit puberty, or maybe girls who have had their period for awhile but want to learn more. Personally, when I got my period there weren’t too many great resources for girls my age that were not only educational but not super intimidating. My mom got me the classic Keeping Care of You book from American Girl, and while it taught me some things it also made me really uncomfortable to receive and look through.

Our goal is to remove this discomfort, especially for girls who might not have someone to go to and ask the uncomfortable questions or get the help they need! Not only do we hope to educate these girls, but also those who support them to. Check out Flora for Dads on Instagram and send it to your dads or other cheerleaders who want to help you but may lack the experience themselves. We know first hand how awkward it can get between dads and their daughters when your period starts, and our mission is to eliminate this!

We’re excited for all that’s to come. If you have any further questions feel free to message us on Instagram or send us an email at [email protected]. Now onto some content! 🦋

What the what is a period??

Why in the world do we get periods? This is a question I ask myself every month as I take a Midol and sit under my heating pad. It is definitely not a fun thing to go through, but it is a sign that your body is functioning properly. So yay! And if you haven’t received your period yet, or it is still really unregular, this is not uncommon either. I didn’t get mine until high school which felt very behind at the time but truly everyone is on a different schedule, and that’s ok!

A period typically occurs once a month and can last anywhere from a couple days to just over a week. At the very beginning it isn’t always consistent and can be hard to track. For some girls it becomes more regular as you continue to grow, and for others (myself included) it can still be changing a decade later. It’s important to listen to your body and not get frustrated if its a few days early or even a few days late.

To learn more about what a period is and why it happens we’ve attached a helpful article that walks you through the process more in depth. As much as I would love to tell you all about it, I am unfortunately not a doctor and this is a more credible source!

We know periods are annoying. But if you’re frustrated just know periods are really just a sign that your body is doing what its supposed to be doing. And this is a cause for celebration🥳

Our Must Haves ❄️

As the holidays are quickly approaching its a perfect time for us to list some of our favorite products that get us through that time of the month! If you’re looking for something to help you out or need to add some things to your wish list, go ahead and give these items a peek👀

Heating Pad

This is my personal go to and can be helpful even if you’re not on your period. Cramps are the worst but heat can diminish them even a little. It helps our muscles relax and can provide some comfort. You can also find heated stuffed animals that you can throw in the microwave. Not only are these helpful but extremely cute!

Sweatsuits

There is nothing better than a cozy sweatsuit to get you through a week on your period. A matching set helps you look put together without putting in much effort. Check out Old Navy for some comfy deals!

Pimple Patches

Breakouts are the absolute worst!! And unfortunately they are common when you’re on your period. Mighty Patches are my saving grace when I have something important coming up and have a pimple that is driving me crazy! These are available at most drug stores and are worth every penny:

We’ll be including more of our favorite products on our Instagram in the next couple weeks leading up to the Holidays. For more inspo be sure to follow us there!

That’s all for now!
